Diet Books: Finally Some Truth in the World!

After reading The Plant Paradox , things start to make a lot more sense in the world of food and nutrition. To say that this is the ultimate, and most irrefutable book on diet would be a bit of a stretch, but to say it is the best book I have read on the subject of diet and nutrition would be true.  As with any course of human understanding, as our understanding on the subject of diet and nutrition improves Dr. Gundry updates his lists of foods to say "Yes" to, and foods that you should say "No" to.   I have read a number of books on the subject of diet and nutrition.  These include Bullet Proof Diet , 4 Hour Body , and books by Michael Pollen .  Of these three books I liked the Bullet Proof Diet most, but felt that it was a bit to promotional with the coffee and supplements.  I also think there is a bit of science to the pH of food and drink that we ingest, and that his focus on healthy fats was fantastic, but his limitation on certain vegetables ...

Spanish 80:20 Verbs

Learning Spanish?   Verbs most commonly used: Ser to be, used for things that are more permanent and unchanged Estar to be, used for state of being, or things that are not permanent Ir to go Tener to have Hacer to do, to make Gustar to like or enjoy Querer to want Poder can Dicer to say Ver to see Venir come Deber should Necessitar to need Dar to give Jugar to play Pagar to pay Quedar to stay Vivir to live Mirar to watch  I want to build out an interactive verb tree using Javascript to illustrate how the different verbs are conjugated.  This will help learn to past, future, and other tenses.  The first step will be to build out the rules for the 'regularly' conjugated verbs, and then build out the trees for the irregularly conjugated verbs.  Once these steps are completed, I would like to create steps for people to enter the verbs that they would like to see.   Once the tree has been planted and built out, I...

Simple Ideas

Patenting and licensing your idea can be a good route for establishing royalty income.  Having read the above mentioned books, I have a few "Simple Ideas" that I will be trying to license over the next year, and with success, for the remainder of my career I would like to work as a product developer. As I move through this process I will update this post to better reflect things learned while going through the process. Right now I am in the market research stage, and I am working on putting together the Provisional Patent Application.  Once this is taken care of, I look forward to calling different manufacturing companies and find a licensee in the group. As recommended in the book, I have a few companies ready to call, and I plan on starting with the least favorable companies first. Here are some of the reference websites from the book: http://www.ipwatchdog.com https://inventright.com/

Vacation Dental

Image
Thinking about getting dental work performed? If you are low on dough, like your frugal writer, or just want to save money, read on!  I recently had a crown break in half.  I know, gross!  But obviously it needed to be taken care of, but in my current state I did not have the money to have this replaced in the United States. I instead opted to contact a friend and get a quote in order to have it fixed in Mexico City, Mexico. My original plan was to have old fillings replaced with white fillings, and do a bit of cosmetic dentistry, but after chatting with Doctor Beller I decided against this.  He said that the only thing I really needed was the crown, and that the old fillings looked to be in good shape.  So onward with just the crown. We had three visits together: The initial meeting and evaluation, the measurement and preparation for the new crown, and the installation.  All said and done it cost 5500 pesos, or $280 USD for the installation of a po...

Using a Tablet for Cellular Communications

Image
Advantages:  -It can offer a cheaper alternative  -You probably are not going to pull out your tablet at a bar or restaurant  -I buy the 2 Gigabyte/month plan through AT&T Mexico at $10/month  -In the US I use a straighttalk SIM card and buy 1 GB/month for $15.    -I wanted a Samsung device without paying more for a "Smaller" Phone  -Seems to work great internationally, changing out the SIM of course Disadvantages:  -People constantly asking, "Is that your phone?", but I actually enjoy this!   -You probably are not going to pull out your tablet at a bar or restaurant, so if socializing with people around you is a problem, you might want a phone.  -If you really want to spend the money on unlimited calling/text/data, these plans cost much more, but are much cheaper by the Gigabyte. My reaction to, "Is that your phone?" So I have been using a tablet with international SIM card for the ...

Bicycle Tour: GAP and C&O Canal

The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal (C&O) is probably one of the best bicycle tours.  It offers 340 miles of limestone trail away from cars, but never drifts to far from small towns where supplies can be purchased. Starting in downtown Pittsburgh, PA the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) goes around the "point", across the Monongahela River via the "Three Rivers Heritage Trail".  Once on the other side of the Monongahela River the trail follows the river upstream.  This was the hardest part for me to navigate when riding the GAP to Cumberland, MD, and once you are across the Monongahela River following the trail is very easy.  I was lucky, and found a few cyclists who showed me the initial start of the trail. In McKeesport, PA you start to follow the Youghiogheny River.  It was during this stretch that the afternoon weather started to take a turn for the worse.  It started to rain and thunderstorm, and pressing on, I cont...

Double Edge Razor Advantages

Image
Whether you are tired of spending to much money on razor blades, bad shaving experiences, or just want to reduce your consumption, double edge razors are here to help. After owning the razor shown above for several years, I must say the love is not lost. I am not a person who shaves everyday, and at times I let my facial hair get pretty thick before shaving. Before starting to use double edge razors, this was a really big issue. The new age safety razors clog extremely fast, and I would often get a much shorter life out of the blades. This did not lead to me shaving everyday, but actually lead me to shave more infrequently and then just deal with a beard for a few weeks at a time. I don't like having a beard either since I have sensitive skin that is easily irritated by the beard. The 'safety' razors also lead to more nicks and cuts during the shave. This was more related to the difficulty in cleaning the blades than anything else. It seemed like the mo...
